Do you know how many people have asked me about why I use maya.t instead of maya t.? Zero.
But I’m sure someone is curious, right?
First off, my last name is kinda long in English (not in Japanese though). And even I get tired of writing it all out. Of course, I have the all too common stories of people failing to even try pronouncing it as a kid, and botching my first name too. My last name is uncommon*, so I’m pretty easy to find if you google me. (As a private & paranoid person, this freaks me out.)
There was no way I was going to use my whole last name when I was setting up a website during university. And that’s when PETITE MAYA.T started. Somehow I instinctively knew I would put the dot between “Maya” and “T.” Rather than the correct placement after the first letter of the last name. But I wasn’t sure why…
Until a few years later, I came across this in the tupperware at my parent’s home.
And then this, on one of my Gomi Taro books.
I’m guessing it was a mistake one of my parents made when they were labeling my things for school. But I quite like it and is a good way to separate my last name initial without using a space! So it’s revived and stuck around.
